[ferro-alloys.com] A fire earlier this week knocked one of two electric arc furnaces offline at Nucor's steel plate mill in Longview, Texas, a company spokeswoman said in an email Wednesday.
In the email, the spokeswoman did not say when the furnace might return to action, and did not respond to further inquiries on a restart date.
The steelmaker is in discussions with customers about any potential disruption of service or delivery following the fire.
The company believes the impact will be minimal "and the Nucor Plate group will be able to continue to meet our customers' needs," according to the spokeswoman.
There were no injuries or environmental impact as a result of the fire, the spokeswoman added.
Nucor purchased the plate mill from Joy Global for $29 million in 2016. It has a listed annual capacity of 180,000 st with two electric-arc furnaces each with a 23 st heat size.
