Despite fluctuations on the LME, spot cobalt prices last week were unchanged, traders said. Small sales of 99.8% Co were reported at slightly above $15 per lb. Some traders appeared to be pushing prices down, citing purchases of high-grade material from Chinese traders at $13.50. Others doubted that any high-grade material was being offered under $14. “Business is slow, and prices are not going up,” said a trader, “but they are not falling either.” The LME cash settlement price for cobalt slipped to $13.38 per lb on July 9, but later the same day, select trading was done at about $14.10.
