Mining, earthmoving and plant hire specialist Close-Up Mining is currently contracted by mining heavy weights Anglo Coal and Glencore, as well as various midtier and junior miners in Mpumalanga.
It was also previously subcontracted to service diamond giant De Beers Consolidated Mine’s openpit Venetia mine. Close-Up Mining, based in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, which has a staff of 340, is a specialist opencast mining company. Its focus on cost-effective production outputs, its safety philosophy and delivery of value to clients is the envy of many competitors; its value proposition enables Close-Up to enjoy long-standing relationships with key coal mining clients.
Established in 2006, Close-Up Mining supplies various bulk earthmoving equipment, including excavators ranging from 20 t to 120 t, D6 to D10 bulldozers, and 966 and 988 front-end loaders; rigid dump trucks, articulated dump trucks, graders and tractor loader backhoes; water and diesel bowsers; and percussion drill rigs. The current complement of plant and equipment is capable of moving more than three-million cubic metres a month. The company is 26% black-owned. This includes a 16% shareholding that was sold to Fraser Alexander in 2013/14, which is 100%-owned by Royal Bafokeng Holdings, itself 51% black- woman-owned.
